EMOTION AND THE SELFIE
This work is a result of experimenting with self-portraiture as a means of expressing my health. This experimentation developed into a curiosity to investigate my health further, in addition to exploring memories, personal feelings and hidden visions.
I’ve never really considered my process as a process. My head visualises an image and I try to replicate that vision. These visions are normally constructed from negative emotion or thought and are the foundation for the process.
Throughout this series, ‘distant’ and ‘hidden’ were recurring themes, and I believe my thoughts- and therefore, my images- were based around these.
I develop this idea by shooting the image. I may reshoot, if I feel I can emphasise the meaning of the image or if the conditions aren’t correct. For me, this process is not just one of a photographic nature. This process is a way of expressing my feelings and thoughts, and I believe these images are a compromise. Implied yet subtle, they reveal enough, but not all.
