The Same as You

The same as you began from having a disability myself. Since a young age I have stigmatised myself through my differences. I wanted to change the notion of people with dual sensory impairment and additional disabilities.

It became apparent over time, that everyday objects and environments are very important. We use our senses all the time but most of that is by default and not conscious awareness. Most of the time we take our senses for granted. In this series, I aim to represent the perception of disability.

About the Artist

Leia Ankers is a British documentary and portrait photographer and co-founder of Images that Resonate. She has a first Class BA (Hons) Photography from Cambridge School Of Art (2020).

Ankers is the recipient of numerous awards and grants, has given talks on her work at Arts Culture and Freelancer Podcast, and has numerous publications and features of her work, including being Editor’s Pick in The British Journal of Photography in 2020. You can find out more about her here.
