Joe Cox is a Hull-based Graphic Artist and Illustrator.

“I’m regularly inspired by old technology, science and machines, and enjoy searching in museum collections and hunting out blogs on vintage equipment. I then use these objects and devices as inspiration for new work, sometimes joining together different elements and shapes to create something new or relatively abstract. Other times I reference them more directly, drawing the objects — as is the case with this piece . It’s an interpretation of an old telephone communication switchboard used to connect together different people.”

“My working process is largely digital - using Adobe Illustrator to work up the piece. I’ll simply start drawing the shapes and objects I take as inspiration, then the composition and final direction reveals itself later. In this piece, I experimented with new gradients and colours.”
