Maria Jose Casazza is an artist based in Vera Cruz, Mexico.

Casazza describes This Is Not A Postcard as, “a collaborative mail art project that collects memories and registers moments in time.”

“Making chain mail means thinking of someone, (considering) distance, sending a piece of ourselves miles away, waiting, sharing a memory, connecting, and declaring ourselves alive. Every postcard is uniquely different: on the front, they have a phrase that ranges from an action to a concept or gesture. These are immersive, making you look around, remember people and places, and imagine feelings. On the other side, there is a log where five different people will write the city, date, and time they received their postcard.”

“Each person who chooses to participate receives an envelope, registers in the postcard’s log, and puts an object that represents a memory inside (be that pictures, flowers, tickets, artwork, etc.).

Then, they send it to another person of their choosing. With This Is Not A Postcard I want to highlight the bravery of sending a piece of yourself hundreds of miles away and the beauty of reaching out. When someone sends a postcard, it says to the receiver "here I am, and I thought of you". When you multiply that effect and make 100 postcards that will reach 500 people, you get a beautiful global map full of connections.”
